Looks like I'll be picking up a Model 4 and Tandy 102 today.
I did the rare thing for me, I answered a Craigslist ad for someone getting rid of a Model 4 for $5. I figure anytime that someone lists something like that for a few bucks, there's probably something behind it.
Yep, now I'm being offered a 102 as well. I have a feeling that there will be more stuff behind it. We'll find out later today.

Ah, the good ol' Tandy computers. I used a Model III in high school, I might still have a floppy disk laying around somewhere, I'm sure no longer working. I've got a Model 102 also, but it turned out to have a line of pixels that were dead.

I think this is my 2nd 102, and if it works, you're welcome to it. I'll bring it along this weekend.
The Model 4 fires up, my the disk drive appears to be dead. I'm sure the belt has deteriorated over the years. It's got 2 of them in it so I'll do some swapping and check it out. If not, I have a donor 4P that someone gave me...

I don't need it, but thanks for the offer. I don't really use the one I have, it's just sort of a curio. It sits in a storage tub next to my CoCo model 2, my Tandy Teletext console, and my TI CC-40.

No such thing as 'need' when it comes to collecting stuff
That's okay... I'll find someone's table to drop it off on when they're not looking.

I wouldn't complain if I found it on my table. It'll be my tablet computer until there is a decent Android tablet or I break down and get an iPad.

I'd love to find a working Model III one of these days. I just checked eBay and it looks like broken ones are going for $50 + shipping and a working one is going for $175 w/shipping. I'm looking to spend $20 or less.

Thanks for the Tandy 102, Brian, I've been having fun with my new system.
I am amazed that a system like that can run only off 4 AA cell batteries.
I have lots of questions as I try to figure out this system (and most of them have already been answered by the Internet) so expect a new thread in this forum about that.

Maybe 12 years or so ago, at the First Saturday Sale in downtown Dallas a guy was giving away either a model II or model II with a bunch of accessories and stuff. He just sat there, forlornly waiting for someone to take it off his hands and give it a good home. I hope someone got some use out of it.

I had a 102 with a 3.5" disk drive that ran off of batteries (!) in the 80s/90s. I used to use the thing to call my BBS when I was out of town on vacation or whatever using the built in 300 baud modem. Freaking awesome.
I downloaded a TOSEC with a ton of 100/102 software built in. I need to get the tape interface for it so I can load some of this off of cassette.

... and speaking of, I sent this guy an email for the cost of shipping and handling:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~mmarlette/C ... CR-83.html
or cloud9tech.com
New tape drive for $5 with cables? Sure why not. The tape drive works with all TRS 80s from the Model 4 to the CoCo, MC-10, 100, etc.
